City Confidence & Character | Tadhg’s Pittsburgh Senior Photos

Senior guy city architecture portrait Pittsburgh in Fall Mellon Park

There is something different about photographing senior boys.

It’s quieter (at first). You have to be more subtle with posing (at first). They start out pretty unsure what to expect. You have to get them warmed up!

But beyond the the few warm up challenges- after the ice is broken and they are comfortable, ITS SOO MUCH FUN!

When Tadhg, a senior at Quaker Valley High School, began planning his Pittsburgh senior photos, he knew one thing — he wanted the city but not the yellow bridges that His brother had had a few years before! This was the opposite guy in so many ways. His brother would crack up over any little thing, he was way more reserved. I love the differences between siblings. I also love getting to work with repeat parents over the years. It is such an honor!

Tadhg with his handsome, serious expressions- and down right fun and adventurous personality rocked “dawntawn” session!

Downtown Park | Strong & Effortless

We started in one of Pittsburgh’s downtown parks, surrounded by tall buildings, city textures, and fall leave filled trees.

Tadhg has that classic smirk — confident but understated. The kind of expression that says he knows exactly who he is. We joked that with that jawline- he should model!

Pittsburgh senior photos in the city feel bold yet timeless for guys. The neutral colors, urban textures, and linear architectural backdrops create images that look incredible. If you love an urban feel these images are amazing for framed wall art in your home!

Tadhg’s dad came with him and was support during his session. It’s extra special when the dads come out to support their student during their senior year in this way. There is nothing more laid-back than a dad and his son- having portraits taken down in the city. It was neat because his dad have lots of favorite spots to suggest.

Smithfield Street Bridge | Iconic Pittsburgh Energy

From the park, we made our way to the iconic Smithfield Street Bridge.

If you’re looking for Pittsburgh senior photos that feel unmistakably local, but also “off the beaten path” and not “like everyone else’s” this is the perfect spot for you!

The castle like steel structure, has amazing texture in depth! You can shoot it towards the city and get all of the big buildings or towards the mountain side and have a much more natural backdrop.

This is one of my favorite views in all of Pittsburgh of the skyline, especially right at sunset.

Tadhg’s serious smirks paired perfectly with the cult classic architecture of Smithfield. My favorite image is the one of him in his hood. The day was very cold and I had forgotten to tell him to remove it but it is just so “his personality”- I don’t care and I love it!

A Personal Twist | Comic-Inspired Poses

One of my favorite parts of Tadhg’s session? He has a quirky hobby (a particular comic series he loves), and he wanted to represent and is finished portraits!

We incorporated subtle character-inspired poses into his shoot — strong stances, intentional angles, powerful expressions. These images are incredible inside his custom-designed photo book.

This is why I always tell my seniors: “Bring anything you love & we will work it into your photos creatively!” Your session needs to have your vibe, in your favorite places and represent… YOU!

And when we design albums, those personal touches become storytelling pieces. Than later flipping through pages that represent your hobbies & personality are going to be your favorite shots!

See if you recognize the poses…

For the Moms of Senior Boys

Senior boys don’t always show how much this season means. Sometimes that makes it harder because we feel like we need to do all the feeling for them. I promise you your son does care what his finished senior portraits look like. Just book it now- I promise I will have him “bought in” by the time session day rolls around. I’m pretty awesome at my job!

Tadhg’s gallery is filled with bold city portraits, strong quirky personality, and that smirky confidence that makes him uniquely him. You killed it man!!

If you need to schedule senior portraits for your son, let’s chat! I have shot over one hundred senior boy’s sessions, which makes me an expert in Pittsburgh! ❤️ Heidi
