hi.

Hello and Welcome! My name is Heidi Iliff and I am a happily married momma of 8 children. I am a freelance, artistic photographer working in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

I’ve always loved to take photographs and I also love the post-process part of the art. Many years ago I took classes at a local art college on Photography as a science, an art, and even learned the art of the darkroom. In 2012 I took classes to learn how to use the first digital camera I purchased, a Canon Rebel T2i…Fast forward though growing kids and moving from Michigan to the amazing city of Pittsburgh PA..

Today I use my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV & 6D Mark II, Photoshop and Lightroom Classic to take a photograph and turn it into something that feels more to me like a piece of beautiful art. I have taken many classes on Lightroom over the past 9 years and in the last two years I upped my game by beginning to learn Photoshop. But don’t let my knowledge of tech and these high level programs fool you: I’m still a searcher of the prefect lighting and the unique details each time I take a photograph. I love the beauty of a human face especially with an authentic expression. I truly feel every human is beautiful even with every line and freckle and blemish.

Families are important to me. My own family includes my Husband and 8 children. Families come in all shapes and sizes with unique stories and so much beautiful connection and love that I also enjoy capturing with my camera. Are families all smiles and photoshopped moments? NO! I’d love to capture your family in an authentic way that show cases your connection and love for each other: no matter what that looks like!

I love to take chaos and bring order to it. I love to visualize a setting with just the right bit of everything to make a lovely photograph that you will be proud to hang up in your home. I am obsessed with unique and “special” lighting so you will find I do use artificial lighting often. It is mostly about the moment and place what sorts of “special lighting” I will utilize during my portraits sessions and it’s pretty random I will admit! I am looking for “my” look, my perfect light in every moment during our session time: so expect me to change it up. I will normally never use a flash or bulb for a whole session, even in the studio.

I hope you enjoy the examples of my art on this site. I’d love to work with you or your family to create a work of art from your special moment’s in time! The best way to get a glimpse of my most current work is to follow my instagram @largerthanlifefamily .
