You don’t have to want senior pictures to absolutely love your senior pictures.
Margaret is a senior at Quaker Valley High School, and like so many students I meet, she isn’t really in love with the thought of having her photos taken for hours… She is camera shy – Photos weren’t really “her thing.” Well that’s just malarkey!
- She’s gorgeous!
- She has an amazing style!
- She has an awesome sense of humor and loves to laugh!
- Oh and did I mention her bedazzling smile! It’s infectious!
Margaret has everything it takes to have some amazing personality filled portraits taken for her senior year. We started by picking a place that had so much meaning for her. She grew up on the North Shore in the Mexican streets district of Pittsburgh near Allegheny Commons Park and for her and her mom they were sure they wanted to hold most of her session in that area.

So instead of forcing anything, I built her session around her– because isn’t that the point?!
We started right near the Commonplace coffeehouse in the Mexican war streets. The Mexican war streets are a beautiful classic Pittsburgh neighborhood featuring close homes tall trees gorgeous old-school Pittsburgh architecture… Pretty doorways and entryways on every single house mark these historic streets. The tiny square park across from the coffee house was a fun opening spot and then we got some on the streets nearby featuring some of the fun defaced street signs around the area!
Maybe it was the comfortable familiar setting but Margaret quickly relaxed by 20 minutes in we were laughing and joking and spinning in the streets capturing some of the most beautiful photos!
The connection, the planning, the laughter… AND knowing what sorts images would be meaningful to her and her family eventually lead to the confidence to thrive during her photo shoot!

We made a little pit stop to Mellon Square after we spent some time around her old neighborhood.
I love this park right in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh PA. If has a beautiful fountain in the park itself is ringed with trees and tall classic Pittsburgh buildings. The Omni Hotel is on one side along with some of Pittsburgh’s most famous buildings around the exterior of the square city park.

We had two goals for our session we wanted our golden hour and sunset to be in the Allegheny Commons park and then we wanted the twinkling city lights of downtown from Pittsburgh NorthShore..
I counted our pittsburgh’s North Shore segment as our blue hour portion. I typically planned my sessions around where students want their sunset photos taken as well as any photos taken after dark! Pittsburgh North Shore up by the river is one of my favorites spots to take photos right after the sunset. The glimmering city lights as well as all three of the sister bridges lit up make for a spectacular Pittsburgh skyline and his only rival and its beauty images taken from the opposite shore and the Smithfield St., Bridge area.
Margaret may not have wanted senior pictures.
But she absolutely girl bossed the hell out of her session, and her finished images are EPIC! Her mom ended up ordering my most popular collection (pictured below).

Hey mom, book the session.. I am really good at getting the kids who don’t want the photo shoot to buy in 100% and own it! It’s going to turn out epic, and so are your momentos and memories from your students senior year!
